Unpredictable Relationships in On Air: Who will end up with who?

SBS drama, “On Air” which revolves around the life of celebrities, managers, producers and writers continues its interesting development. Episode 7 talked about how Oh Seung Ah ex-manager ”cripples” her career and the dark side of artistes management. But the ending sees Seung Ah solving the problem by willing to take a step back and become the second lead instead by acting the 7 year old mentally challenged kid instead of the leading doctor role.

In the following episode 8, we see them going to Taiwan to choose location for filming while Seung Ah goes there as a travel ambassador of some sort. It was interesting to see them in Taiwan and visiting Jiufen which is a famous tourist spot and I have been there a couple of times myself. Seeing them there makes me want to go back there again. Kim Ha Neul also had to speak Chinese because of Oh Seung Ah ambassador role and her Chinese pronounciation was pretty fluent. This episode was very fun and enjoyable to watch.

The relationship development really progressed to another level in this episode and just when you thought that yes, they are together, they throw another storyline in to muddle your thoughts altogether, ingenious.

Right from the second episode, celebrity Oh Seung Ah and manager Jang Ki Joon are paired together while work commitments links writer Seo Young Eun and producer Lee Kyung Min together. Because of Ki Joon’s help seven years ago from a bogus fraudster, Seung Ah is very grateful to him and signs with him despite him struggling now. Jang Ki Joon also tells her about his crush on Young Eun many years ago while she was still a newbie writer. But he never ever told her about his feelings. As for Lee Kyung Min, he is attracted to Young Eun initially for her writing talent and then falls for her. While Young Eun likewise for him after having her tantrums neutralized by him constantly.

In the Taiwan episode, all of them goes to Jiufen separately at first. But by coincidence, Seung Ah meets Kyung Min in a shop where the latter suggests they should go together. Seung Ah agrees as they had a wonderful time together savouring the local delicacies, etc. And when Seung Ah was surrounded by fans who recognised her, Kyung Min suddenly puts his cap on her, takes her hand and runs away from the horde of fans. This was a spanner thrown in the works by the writers to mislead us probably. Then later back at the hotel, Kyung Min looks sweetly at the photos he had taken of her at Jiufen.

On the other hand, Ki Joon meets Young Eun at a teahouse as the earlier expressed his feelings for her vaguely. Extended background between them. There’s also the umbrella scene which adds to the ambuigity.

The confusing seemingly one-sided love between the four leads has gotten many viewers perplexed. Immediately after the Taiwan episode was broadcast, many netizens started posting on the official website hoping to see the four-way relationships being defined more clearly and also started giving their two cents about who should end up with who. Who would you choose?

Viewers are definitely enjoying “On Air” as it surpassed the 20% mark in ratings for both episodes last week, coming in top despite Hong Gil Dong last episode.

Shinji of Koyote has stage fright?

Fans are worried for Shinji after her recent “shaking” performance.

(Shinji appears at 1:32 into the clip)

Shinji uncharacteristic stage fright showing happened during the 29th March episode of MBC Music Core and got netizens really worried after seeing it. On this episode, Shinji was performing a duet with Sung Je, “Love is Possible”.

Many netizens pointed out that Shinji seems to be very nervous and was shaking throughout her performance. From the video, you can clearly feel that Shinji’s mic was shaking while her facial expressions made people felt uneasy.

With Kim Jong Min in the army right now, Koyote is currently facing a temporarily suspension of actitivies. The company is awaiting on Shinji’s decision because they gave her two options, either release a Koyote album or a solo album. But Shinji hasn’t gave them a reply yet because of her stage fright ailment.

Shinji did well on Music Bank one week earlier

Shinji has never been comfortable performing by herself unless it’s a group or other format of performance. And if she decides to strike it out solo, rapper Baekga will be left in an awkward position. She also needs time to adapt to new partners. And even if she decides on a Koyote album, without Kim Jong Min vocals, it will feel like a Shinji solo album. And if there’s a need, they might need to draft a new member in which might be a problem when Jong Min returns.

Many netizens posted messages debating over her performance, “Is it because Kim Jong Min and Baekga absence?”, “It feels like she has stage fright?”, “Is she ill?”, “She looks really nervous, her shaking really pains us.”

And there were encouraging messages for her as well, “For your next performance, let us see the best of you”, “Fighting! Shinji fighting!”, etc.

Trifecta Entertainment explained, “As a member of Koyote for the past 10 years, Shinji can’t possibly have stage fright. The reason for her unusual performance was because it was her first time collaborating with someone outside of Koyote in 10 years and the tune was a ballad not the dance songs that she was familiar with. These reasons when combined have placed tremendous stress on her which resulted in her unusual showing. Hope that everyone can treat that as part of growing up pains and Shinji herself has said she will work doubly hard and give us a better stage next time.”

With fame, Yoon Eun Hye finds that pain is part of the package…

People often say that problems is part and parcel of the popularity package.

yeh_19.jpg

Thanks to the success of “Coffee Prince 1st Shop”, Yoon Eun Hye popularity has not just risen in Korea alone but overseas as well. But more often than not, pain comes along with success which is part of the package.

Despite not having any dramas nor movies at the moment, her numerous product endorsements are already keeping her busy, leaving her with little time to recharge herself. Since her drama filming ended, she appears to be on vacation, but in reality, she is busy fulfiling her product endorsement duties. Basically, she has to work non-stop for around 20 days in a given month. Just this month alone, she has to film CFs for clothing chain, Basic House and Joinus. In early April, she has another v=b CF filming to handle too.

Right now, her product endorsements include Zipel fridges, coffee drink Latte Ditto, artificial eyedrops I20, clothing brands Basic House & Joinus, etc.

Companies who already have other stars on their books to endorse soju, tyres, sweets, fast food restaurants have also extended invitations to her, but because it didn’t fit with her image or schedule, she had to reject them.

And because “Coffee Shop 1st Prince” is highly popular in countries like Japan, China, etc, they have invited her over to promote the drama. But because of her already packed schedule, it’s impossible for her to allocate time for her to visit their countries. The Japanese media apparently got tired of waiting and suggested heading over to Korea in a group to interview her. She is now adjusting her schedule and is set to meet them in early April.

Since becoming an actress, she has become a highly sought after star in the industry. Rumours abound that you had to fork out 5 million KRW per episode for Eun Hye in a drama series. But this is basically not true.

From a relatively newbie actress into a big star now, Yoon Eun Hye is going through a tiring growing up phase. But she’s handling it well thus far!
